Absolute Beginner Ballet Sessions - Registration Required
A six week session introducing the art of ballet. Perfect for students who want a refresher course, or want to feel more comfortable before joining a basic beginner ballet class. Registration required. Check back for dates for the next session in the spring.
Basic Beginner Ballet 1, 2, and 3
The basic beginner level has been broken up into three different tracks that are designed to give the newly starting dancer a comprehensive structure to start traversing through the foundational material.
Basic 1 is an extension of the Absolute Beginner Session.
Basic 2 takes familiar material and then introduces further concepts of weight distribution and transference, more alignment work and expanded center floor material.
Basic 3 takes the simplified forms of balances on two legs to one, expands concepts of rotation and turning and continues to enlarge the vocabulary of the center floor and allegro work.
Beginner Ballet 1, 2 and 3
The beginner level is also formatted into three components.
Beginner 1 starts to examine directions at the barre and bigger poses. Longer balances and simple turns at the barre. Across the floor on diagonal is introduced in the center.
Beginner 2 really moves more forcefully into examining croise and ecarte at the barre. Further study of turns both on two legs and one are incorporated. Allegro work expands here as well.
Beginner 3 with pointe component is unique in that it works to offer those adults that have been working in the Intro to pointe class a further opportunity to continue to expand their basic working knowledge of the art of pointe at the barre. It also acts as a pre-pointe prerequisite to those that want to start working on pointe. To those that are not inclined to move to pointe this class is still a necessity to move through the levels as much more concentration on stability on demi toe is emphasized.
Intermediate Variations 1
This is the highest level class on the schedule. Some classes will work directly on learning repetoire from the classical canon and some classes will simply be working on components of variations. This class is designed for students with a solid foundation that want to have a more "dancey" experience with longer combinations and more fluid work on phrasing.
Open Ballet
A tailor made class designed for the students at hand. Thorough barre and brisk center are a feature to this class. Longer combinations and more dancey steps.
Intro to Pointe:
A thorough understanding of ballet technique required. Introducing the art of point work. Instructor's permission for class required.
Jazz! The Basics
This class meets bi-weekly and is open to all levels and offers another perspective to the art of dance through the genre of jazz. Various styles through the decades will be examined and basic jazz technique are covered.
Bale'ates®: (Balay-ah-tees)
Combining the work of Joseph Pilates (mat series) and utilizing basic kinesiology to complement work in ballet class.
BarreUp
The only similarity to ballet and the BarreUp class is the barre! This is dance fitness! Strong cardio work and heavy duty work on all muscle groups is here. There is a small component that explores movement based fitness with a nod to primal movement and animal flow work and calisthenics.
